My Sweet New Ride

I am now the proud owner of 2 bikes; one Treck bike in the US and one "Ex Lady" in Japan. I'll post a picture as soon as I can. There's only one computer here with access to a USB post so it's quite popular.

Our weekends are free so yesterday I just got caught up on things like my journal and laundry. Today I went and bought a bike and then cruised around the city. It's pretty easy to get around on a bike here, occasionally we have to get off and walk because there are so many people.

Tomorrow we're going to Nara for a few days and I have no idea what our accommodations will be like or if we'll have interent access there.

Just to answer a few of your questions- In Japan people don't stare at me because of my blond hair but in China they would grab me to get me in their photos...I don't really know why there was so much garbage in China. I'd imagine they don't have garbage pick up like we're used to and many people in the rural areas couldn't afford it if they did...The Olympic buildings are now just tourist attractions. We were wondering how long that will last and at what point, if ever, will they be used for competitions again. They do charge you around $7 USD to see them inside.

I'm not travel weary yet. I've settled into this routine and wish I could just keep travelling. It just makes me realize that there's so mush more of the world to see and I'm becoming less and less intimidated by it every day.

Wow, the pictures of Japan are beautiful! Makes me really crave spring and GREEN. The snow is so dirty here now.

Who's the third fellow in the photo of you and Alex?

You bought a bike?? To keep?

I wish James could be with you.

It's too early yet so I'll write more later.

Love,
Mom

Beautiful pics Sara! I would love to see those gardens.
Bill Nelson would be in Heaven. I'm sure Susie will check these out and Bill will be inspired to add another dimension to their gardens.
We are under a storm watch for Tuesday. They must be confident that we are going to get hit to post it this early. I am so looking forward to SPRING!!
I am curious to see a picture of you on your bike in Japan. You will have to give her a Japanese name.
Are you and James trying to get more and more away from driving? I'd still like to get myself a little scooter. I'd love to go exploring that way.
Who is the other fellow in the pic besides Alex?
I'm glad to hear you are doing so well.
I brought your blog over to G & G's yesterday. Gramps grabbed it right away and had the biggest grin on his face when he saw the picture of you in China. Grandma was anxious to read it.
Stay happy! Love, Een

Boy, People sure get up early around here! We just went on daylight savings time and I thought I'd get a jump on things....
I'm glad you're having such a good time. It must take a lot of energy to be up for new experiences all the time.
Are there many Americans in Japan? Will you be traveling around much like going to Tokyo? I know its a huge city, but don't remember the population. I imagine everything to be on a smaller scale there than it is here. Is that accurate? Smaller is my mantra these days.
Thanks for the posts. I look forward to them every morning
Love, Nancy

Sara, What a trip!! It will seem very mundane to be home, but some how relaxing. We are all jealous of your experiences. Can't wait to see the week long slide show. I can't see how it could be shorter.

Is Japan really as beautiful as indicated by your photos or are you just showing us the best to make us jealous? It is actually quite lovely here today because of yesterday's snow. Everything looks fresh and clean. I'm guessing Tokyo is a very clean city despite its huge population. How big is it? We will pick your brain for garden ideas when you get back.

Love,
Susie
