Katoomba

So it's hotter than hell here. I went for a short hike this morning and that's about all I can handle. Our hotel is located in East Jesus Nowhere so even to get to town to eat is a chore. I'm hoping to be able to post more pictures soon. The computer I'm on only recognizes one of my card readers and alot more pictures are on my other memory card (I have two cameras with me).

We left Sydney yesterday and took a 2 hour Train ride to Katoomba. I had two excellent meals yesterday in town, a Greek Salad and then for dinner I ate at a Greek restaurant and had calamari, feta and olives. I guess I was on a Greek kick. Today after my hike I bought a foot long Subway sandwich to cover lunch and dinner today and I bought 2 croissants at a bakery for breakfast on the train tomorrow. We go back to Sydney tomorrow.

I don't really know how distinct the season are here. I don't know how the temps differ in the winter. I don know that it's Typhoon season in North Australia. The last twon we stop in, Cairns (Pronounced something like Cannes), has no food left in the grocery stores becuase there's flooding all the way around it.

We gop back to Sydeny tomorrow for 3 days and then we fly to Brisbane. We then go to Surfers Paradise for a day or two and then back to Brisdane and then onto Cairns. Those are the only places we're going in Australia.

I haven't tried any wine in Australia, I'm too cheap. I did buy a bottle of local chardonnay in New Zealand but it wasn't that great. If I do find any that's good I let you know.

The watecoloring is a reqirement. As are 3 journal entries a week.

The only real Aussie slang I see is written on postcards for tourists. I heard on guy use the word "bloke" quite a few times but that's it. I haven't had a chance to go swimming yet eaither. Maybe when we get back to Sydeny I'll be able to go to Bondi Beach.

My internet time is up.. I love getting your comments!

CheeriO Darling!
That's more brit than Ausie I know but can't think of anything else. Life seems so mundane here compared to what you're up to. I know it's damn hot and a struggle at times, but imagine trying to find good Greek food at Zups. Imagine going to the beach if you were here right now. Imagine how good 30F felt today after day's and day's of zero below. I so wish I were with you. You know how much I detest the heat, but I'd put up with it just to experience what you're experiencing. XOX
Hope you can call again sometime.

Hi Sara! Great pics! The picture of the wild beach with sand dunes is a place I'd love to be right now. There didn't appear to be a soul there. Was this the beach you hiked to on your own? What a place!
Too bad it's so hot. I remember when we were in Thailand in AUgust and the heat and humidity were very high. It was hard to do much and when we did our energy could get zapped in no time. It's no fun.
Best advise I have is to wear damp clothes and carry a spray bottle. Everyone else can think you look nuts while you smile in your coolness.
Looks like we could be getting a nasty ice storm early in the week. While I love a wicked storm I am hoping this one will not materialize. Ice storms are too destructive.
I heard on the news this a.m. that the Sydney area is dealing with some of it's worst wildfires in years, possibly 40 people have been killed. Conditions are definitely extreme there.
You have been doing so much. I'm proud of you for
being so brave and daring. You'll never run of of great tales to tell. Enjoy the journey, triumphs and travails! Love, EEn

What's that pillow jump thing you were on? Kari looks like she's having a blast! I love the one of you in the cave...you look so golden and healthy. Tell Kari thanks for all the photos! I love seeing them. I better go check Alex's sight to see if he's posted anything new. Love ya!

On Saturday, the New South Wales Rural Fire Service asked residents to remain indoors and close all windows, as prevailing winds continue to push smoke from the bush into Greater Sydney, where an expected heat wave is alarming local residents, including the city's elderly population.

Is this having an effect on your plans?

What absolutely stunning photos. You'll treasure those forever. You'll have to get some matted and framed. I LOVE the Opera House. I've been on-line looking at it,and it's amazing how many different visages it can have. It looked like a giant spider in one photo--evening--I think. I wonder how old it is, and is it as intriguing on the inside? I'd also like to know what the cost of living is like for the average bloke. Wouldn't it be great to live there 6 months of the year? We better try our luck with the lottery again!
