The Umbrella vendors worst nightmare

Is either the sun or me (sara). It rained today and the umbrella vendors (who are illegal) were out in full force. One guy put his arm full of umbrellas out in front of me so I smaked all of the umbrellas as hard as i could with my arm.

Rome was great, there was too much to see though. We went in the colosseum on saturday and saw some of the ancient roman ruins. Some date back to the 9th century BC. Today we did see the pope and we went to the panthoeon. We wanted to go into st peters but the line was too long and we missed our chance. Next time.

This key board is really hard to type with so I'm keeping this brief.

We have over 200 pictures of rome alone so I can't to show everyone, we'll make a power point presentation.

Can someone print this and give it to grandma, MOM?

We in Naples now. Wow. I have to breath into my shirt quite frequently and ste pover mounds of trash. I don't know why they even have stop lights because it's just a free for all. Quite amusing to watch though, but not fun to cross. We did have the BEST pizza we've had had tonight, and it wa dirt cheap! Pizza was invented in Naples. We might go back to the same place tomorrow night.

Tomorrow we're going to pompeii, and if we have time to the crater on top of vesuvius. I'm not sure I'll be able to sleep tonight!

Ok, I'll try to leave another blog tomorrow, hopefully on one of the other computers that doesn't have a sticky keyboard. If I don't, It might be awhile before we have internet access again. I'm not sure our next hostel (In Cinque Terre) has it and I'm pretty sure our budget hotel on the French Riviera doesn't.

Oh, our scrambled eggs were excellent! We also had fried potatoes with garlic and shallots! So good!

Hope your arm hurts Sara. Why did you smack him? He's probably just trying to make a living. Maybe I don't get it. Why is there so much trash in Naples? Do you think you could make the pizza you had there when you get home? My favorite pizza was in Spain, but it was quite different from what we have here. I just remember it tasting incredibly fresh, as if all the ingredients where picked fresh that day. Oh, and why is it illegal to sell umbrellas? That's strange. I still remember how intrigued you were with Pompeii when you were quite little Sara. In fact, I just found a paperback book in one of the closets titled "POMPEII...Buried Alive". I think you were in 2nd grade. I never would have guessed you'd actually go there someday. Good for you. Okay, my timer is going off to indicate that my dinner of Augrauten potatoes and oven fried chicken is done. (salad and asparagus from Kathy's garden too.) Oh, Grandma was at Eileen's today so maybe she showed her the blog. I'll ask before I print it. Have a hearty slice of Pizza for me! XOX

Hi you two! Sara, I know how it is when you are well into your travels. Part of you does miss the comforts of home and you are a major target for the umbrella people (tired, hungry for something familiar: perhaps a little annoyed that only a few people understand you.) They see you and to them you are a wealthy tourist. They swarm you,
you swat.
Now would be a good time for a little nap. (Except the pillow stinks doesn't it? ) Enjoy it. It will be one of the colorful memories you have when you reminisce. Actually I know that except for a few minor problems the two of you are seeing more in several weeks than most people see in a life time.
Bravo! Bravo!
I wish for you bugs in your breakfast tomorrow. In a few years you will be grateful for the memory.
Enjoy the crunch, and chew!
You know I kove you both! Aunt I

Any where there are tourists there are vendors. That can be one good thing about tours. The leader usually knows which ones have good deals for real. It is so hard to judge in another country.

Glad you two got some good food. That always improves the attitude and helps with the patience. I assume that vendors are required to have permits that the umbrella guys don't bother with.

It is 90 degrees here today so no umbrellas are necessary.

I am excited for your Pompeii visit. Wish we were with you.
Love ya both, MomC
